Melbourne is getting its own slice of the National Basketball Association this May, with NBA House set to land at The Timber Yard from 14 to 17 May as part of the 2026 Playoffs.
The four-day event marks the first time NBA House has been staged in Australia, bringing a large-scale fan experience that blends live basketball, gaming, music and pop culture under one roof. Spanning more than 6,000 square metres, the setup is designed to run alongside the Playoffs, with live viewing parties giving fans a place to watch games together in real time.
Alongside the broadcasts, the program includes meet-and-greets with NBA players or legends, appearances from team entertainers and a mix of local celebrity drop-ins. Those names are still to be announced, but the format follows previous NBA House events held across the US, Europe and Asia.
There’s also a hands-on element. Fans can take part in basketball skills challenges, step into an interactive game zone featuring NBA 2K26, and grab photos with the Larry O’Brien Trophy. Add in DJs, food, pop-up retail and sponsor activations, and it leans more festival than fan zone.
NBA Asia head of strategy Rajah Chaudhry said the timing reflects growing interest in the sport locally.
“Bringing NBA House to Australia will energise our fanbase at a time where the momentum around basketball has never been greater,” he said.
“NBA House has delighted fans all over the world, and we look forward to what will be a multi-day celebration of basketball and the NBA for fans in Melbourne as we approach the pinnacle of the season.”
The event follows previous editions in countries including Brazil, Canada, China and the UK, with Melbourne now added to that list.
More details, including ticketing, are expected soon, with fans able to register interest online ahead of the May dates.
