Two major nights of classical music are heading to St Kilda Town Hall this June as superstar violinist Richard Tognetti joins the Australian National Academy of Music Orchestra for a pair of special performances celebrating ANAM’s 30th anniversary.
Taking place on Thursday 25 June and Saturday 27 June, the concerts will showcase some of Australia’s most exciting emerging musicians alongside one of the country’s most acclaimed classical performers during a special Melbourne residency.
The first performance, Central Park in The Dark, explores the rich and atmospheric sound worlds of composers Charles Ives, Ruth Crawford Seeger and Arnold Schoenberg, alongside contemporary Australian composer Alex Turvey. Audiences can expect an adventurous and emotionally charged program culminating in Schoenberg’s Verklärte Nacht.
The second concert, Richard Tognetti: Mahler’s Heavenly Life, will feature a performance of Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 4 in G Major, paired with works by Haydn and Johann Christian Bach. The evening will also include a performance from special guest soprano Sophia Blades, a 2026 Melba Artist appearing courtesy of the Melba Opera Trust.
Currently based at Abbotsford Convent before its planned return to South Melbourne Town Hall in 2028, ANAM continues to cement its reputation as one of the country’s leading training grounds for elite young musicians.
