James Blake is heading back to Australia this December, marking his first shows in the country since 2019 and giving local fans a chance to see one of contemporary music’s most influential and genre-defying artists live once again.
The British Grammy and Mercury Prize-winning producer, songwriter and musician will perform three headline shows across the country, wrapping up the tour at Melbourne’s Margaret Court Arena on Saturday 5 December.
The tour arrives in support of Blake’s newly self-released album Trying Times, which has become the highest-charting record of his career. The album continues his trademark blend of electronic experimentation, soulful songwriting and emotional vulnerability, exploring themes of intimacy, uncertainty and connection.
Since emerging from the UK’s post-dubstep scene in the early 2010s, Blake has built a reputation as one of modern music’s most innovative voices. His influence stretches well beyond his own catalogue, with collaborations spanning some of the biggest names in contemporary music including Beyoncé, Frank Ocean, SZA, ROSALÍA, Kendrick Lamar and Travis Scott.
His creative fingerprints can be found across landmark releases such as Blonde, DAMN., ASTROWORLD, Lemonade and Motomami, helping shape the sound of popular music over the past decade.
Blake has also earned a reputation as a captivating live performer, appearing at major festivals and venues around the world including Glastonbury, Coachella, Primavera Sound, Austin City Limits and Splendour in the Grass.
The Australian tour begins at Brisbane’s Fortitude Music Hall on 1 December before heading to Sydney Opera House Forecourt on 2 December as part of the On The Steps concert series. The final stop is Melbourne’s Margaret Court Arena on 5 December.
