Australian metalcore giants Parkway Drive are heading back to smaller stages this August for a special tour celebrating two of the most important albums in their catalogue, giving fans a rare chance to hear songs that have been absent from live sets for years.
The Byron Bay band will perform 2005’s Killing With A Smile in full on one night, followed by 2007’s Horizons on the next, alongside a selection of fan favourites and career-spanning hits. Melbourne fans can catch the double-header at Forum Melbourne on 9 and 10 August.
For a band that now headlines arenas and major festivals around the world, the tour represents a return to the records that helped establish Parkway Drive as one of Australia’s most influential heavy music acts.
Frontman Winston McCall said the idea emerged while revisiting older material for the band’s most recent tour.
“This idea kicked off when we started working on the KWAS (Killing With A Smile) medley for our last tour. Revisiting Killing With A Smile with a fresh perspective lit a spark that remained after we finished up, so we figured rather than let the spark die, let’s take it and create something special,” he said.
“For all the people who have waited to hear these songs live again, for all the people that never got the chance to see these two albums on stage, for ourselves reconnecting with the core energy at the heart of this band, this tour is for all of us. Some of these songs haven’t been played live in over a decade, some have never been played at all. You wanted it, now you got it, so let’s make this moment worth the wait.”
Across more than 20 years, Parkway Drive have grown from local hardcore heroes into one of Australia’s biggest international music success stories, sharing stages with Metallica, Slipknot and Lamb of God while headlining major festivals worldwide.
