Alaskan rockers Portugal. The Man are heading back to Australia this October for a three-show East Coast run, including a stop at Melbourne’s Forum.
Led by singer and multi-instrumentalist John Gourley, the band will bring their Denali Tour to Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane in support of their latest album, Shish, released last November.
The Melbourne show will take place on Saturday 17 October, following the tour opener at Sydney’s Roundhouse on Wednesday 14 October. The band will then wrap things up at Brisbane’s Fortitude Music Hall on Sunday 18 October.
The upcoming shows mark Portugal. The Man’s return to Australia following their appearance at Bluesfest in 2024 and previous performances at Groovin The Moo, along with headline dates.
The group has built a reputation as one of the more distinctive acts to emerge from Alaska, developing a loyal following through years of touring and a constantly evolving sound.
Their biggest mainstream moment came with the release of Feel It Still in 2017. The infectious single became a global hit, topping several Billboard charts, reaching the Top 5 of the Billboard Hot 100 and winning the Grammy Award for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance in 2018.
Rather than simply chase the sound of their biggest hit, the band continued experimenting, releasing Shish as their tenth full-length album. The record explores themes of survival, connection and ambition while drawing on Gourley’s experiences of rural life.
Portugal. The Man’s Denali Tour hits the Forum Melbourne on Saturday 17 October.
