The state government has announced five new mountain bike trails will be constructed at Mt Buller – a project set to generate $5.2 million annually for the economy and support 52 full-time jobs.
Tourism, Sport and Major Events Minister Steve Dimopoulos confirmed that construction will begin on 10 kilometres of new single-track mountain bike trails, funded through the Regional Tourism Investment Fund.
The new network will include two beginner and family-friendly trails and three gravity options featuring jumps and technical descents designed for experienced riders.
“Once these new trails are complete there will be even more options for people to explore what makes this stunning part of Australia so special and keeps people coming back year after year,” Mr Dimopoulos said.
The new trails will connect with Mt Buller and Mt Stirling’s existing 60-kilometre network, enhancing access between the alpine resorts and encouraging overnight stays in the region. More than 5,000 additional summer visitors are expected annually once the project is complete in April 2026.
Mt Buller already proved its appeal this year by hosting the National Mountain Biking Championships, which drew more than 4,000 visitors. With the 2026 championships confirmed for the same venue, the expanded trail system is expected to strengthen Victoria’s reputation as a hub for world-class mountain biking.
“Alpine Resorts Victoria thanks the Victorian Government for this investment in new trails, which will cement our position as a world-class mountain bike location,” said Allan Arthur, General Manager of Mt Buller and Mt Stirling at Alpine Resorts Victoria.
