Australia’s next World Cup match is locked in, with the Socceroos set to face Egypt in a high stakes Round of 32 clash that will kick off at 4am AEST on Saturday July 4 in Dallas.
AAMI Park and Federation Square will once more serve as live sites hosting public watch parties for the Socceroos.
According to The Herald Sun, the first 10,000 fans through the gates at AAMI Park will be served a free hot breakfast, with doors opening at 3am. Ham and cheese toasties, croissants, vegetarian quiche, cheese and bacon pies and breakfast sausage rolls will be available at no cost.
The matchup comes after Australia secured second place in Group D following a tense 0-0 draw with Paraguay. Egypt finished second in Group G after a dramatic final round in which Iran’s stoppage time goal was overturned by VAR, preserving Egypt’s place and setting up their first ever knockout meeting with Australia.
The Socceroos enter the knockout stage with confidence after a solid group campaign that included a 2-0 win over Türkiye and a competitive showing against the United States. Coach Tony Popovic will welcome the eight day break between matches, giving the squad time to reset before facing a physically strong Egyptian side.
The winner of Australia’s clash with Egypt will progress to face either Argentina or Cabo Verde in the Round of 16, a matchup scheduled for July 8 in Atlanta.
