Photographs of the late singer Amy Winehouse as a 19 year old on the cusp of stardom will be presented in a new exhibition that’s coming to Melbourne in November.
The Amy, Before Frank exhibition features photos captured by renowned photographer Charles Moriarty, who was a long-time friend of Winehouse.
Celebrating the 20th anniversary of her debut album Frank, the exhibition is aimed at showcasing a moment in time before the album was released. Moriarty took the images in London and New York.
Amy Winehouse tragically passed away on July 23, 2011. She had struggled with substance abuse issues for many years, and her battle with addiction was widely documented in the media.
Her untimely death was a significant loss to the music industry and her fans around the world. She is remembered for her incredible talent as a singer and songwriter, with albums like Back to Black earning critical acclaim and numerous awards.
More than 30 of Moriarty’s images will be on display at the Oshi Gallery in Collingwood from 1-5 November. Entry is free. There will be a talk from Moriarty at 12:30pm on Saturday 4 November.
