The Brunswick Underground Film Festival is back for its second year, and it is going all in. After a strong debut that drew more than 2,500 attendees, the 2026 edition expands to four days, six screens and a packed lineup of 69 feature films and 36 shorts.
Running from 14 to 17 May, the festival will take over Balam Balam Place and Brunswick Picture House, both within easy walking distance. Presented by cult cinema collective Static Vision, the program leans into boundary pushing cinema while making it more accessible than ever, with ticket prices reduced across the board.
The lineup spans new releases, retrospectives and anniversary screenings. Opening night dives straight into controversy with The Devils presented uncut, while closing night celebrates two decades of Shortbus in a new 4K screening. Premieres include Our Hero, Balthazar, Bunnylovr starring Rachel Sennott, and Atropia featuring Alia Shawkat. Buzz titles like Ftoys have already sold out sessions.
Anniversary highlights range from the Japanese silent landmark A Page of Madness, accompanied by a live score from Uboa, to cult classics Ms .45 and The Evil Dead marking 45 years. A full retrospective of filmmaker Elaine May also lands at Brunswick Picture House.
Beyond the screen, the festival introduces free outdoor sessions led by Shaolin Soccer and a new industry symposium covering everything from independent distribution to transgressive cinema. There is also a choose your own adventure triple feature and a marathon program exploring sex and sexuality on screen.
With lower prices, no schedule clashes and a significantly expanded program, BUFF 2026 is shaping up as a must for adventurous film lovers.
