Dance Episodes, a major contemporary production from acclaimed choreographer Justin Peck.
The new production premieres at Regent Theatre from 23 June to 2 July before heading to Sydney later in the year.
Set to the music of legendary American composer Aaron Copland, the ballet combines large ensemble choreography, athletic movement and bold visual design across 22 separate dance episodes performed by 30 dancers. The Melbourne season will also feature live music performed by Orchestra Victoria.
Known for blending contemporary energy with classical precision, Peck’s choreography moves through four of Copland’s scores, creating a fast-paced production built around movement, rhythm and colour.
Artistic Director David Hallberg said the production marks an important moment for the company.
“Justin Peck has a rare ability to create work that feels electrifying and alive. If you loved Everywhere We Go, you’ll recognise the same momentum and joy in Copland Dance Episodes. It pushes our dancers in exciting ways, which always gives the audience a true sense of surprise through movement. Copland’s music resonates deeply with Peck. Sharing it with our audiences for the first time outside of New York adds a special meaning to this work.”

Peck first worked with The Australian Ballet during the company’s 2022 season of Everywhere We Go and has since become one of the most recognised names in contemporary choreography, with credits spanning ballet, Broadway and film including West Side Story and Maestro.
The production also features set designs by Jeffrey Gibson, costumes by former New York City Ballet dancer Ellen Warren and lighting by Brandon Stirling Baker.
Copland Dance Episodes will be The Australian Ballet’s final performances at Regent Theatre before returning to the Ian Potter State Theatre.
