Lunar New Year celebrations are lighting up Melbourne’s eastern suburbs this summer, with The Glen and Box Hill Central shopping centres rolling out a month of free festivities filled with colour, culture and family friendly experiences.
Running until 4 March, the twin precincts are hosting a vibrant celebration of the Year of the Horse, inviting shoppers and visitors to take part in traditional Lunar New Year customs alongside contemporary art and interactive installations. It is a program designed to be explored at your own pace, whether you are stopping by for a quick visit or making a day of it.

Across both centres, visitors can pick up personalised horoscope readings offering a glimpse into the year ahead, while wishing trees encourage moments of reflection, renewal and shared hope. Glowing Lightbox lantern installations by Chinese-Australian artist Chrissy Lau add a visual highlight, with each piece symbolising good fortune, optimism and fresh beginnings.
A striking gold coin installation sits at the heart of the celebrations, representing wealth, protection and success for the year to come. Box Hill Central will also host a traditional Lantern Festival from 27 February to 4 March, transforming the centre into a luminous display of colour and light that comes alive after dark.

From festive photo opportunities to meaningful cultural moments, The Glen and Box Hill Central’s Lunar New Year program offers an accessible and welcoming way to celebrate Melbourne’s multicultural spirit. It is a chance for families and friends to connect, reflect and step into the new year together.
