The AFL has unveiled the fixture for the 2025 season, with fans eagerly awaiting a lineup full of blockbuster games and high-stakes matchups.
The schedule for the first 16 rounds is fully locked in, with matchups and venues set for the entire season, though exact times for rounds 16-23 and round 24 will be confirmed later to ensure marquee games land in the prime slots.
A key highlight is the return of Thursday night football, featured in 23 of 25 rounds, with every week in the first 16 rounds showcasing a Thursday night matchup. The popular Sunday night timeslot will also make an appearance nine times, covering special dates like Easter Sunday and King’s Birthday Eve.
Gather Round is back for its third year and will bring footy to the Barossa Valley for the first time, as two games will be hosted at this new regional venue.
The season will kick off on 6 March 2025 with reigning premiers Brisbane facing Geelong in Sydney, setting the stage for a thrilling opening round, which also includes a Grand Final rematch between the Lions and Sydney at the SCG.
In other highlights, the Dreamtime at the ‘G will be played on a Friday for the first time, and the Hawks will host the first-ever Friday night game in Launceston.
