A sharp, funny and painfully relatable look at modern relationship will take centre stage at a new production coming to Chapel off Chapel this June.
Taylor Made Productions will present the Australian premiere of Four Play. Written by British playwright Jake Brunger, the contemporary queer comedy arrives in Melbourne following a celebrated 2025 London revival and will run for a strictly limited five-show season from 24 to 27 June at The Loft theatre space in Prahran.
Directed by Cal Robinson-Taylor, Four Play explores the complicated realities of long-term relationships, intimacy and the pressure of trying to maintain the illusion of having everything figured out.
The story follows couple Rafe and Pete, who after seven years together decide to carefully open up their relationship for the first time. What begins as a sensible and well-structured plan quickly unravels once another couple enters the picture, pushing everyone into emotionally messy territory.
Rather than focusing on traditional coming out narratives, the production examines the realities of queer relationships in a post marriage equality world, balancing humour, vulnerability and awkward honesty in equal measure.
“Four Play is a mirror to the modern relationship. Itʼs about the messy collision of sex, passion, and love. More importantly, it reveals the modern perceptions of the ‘perfect relationship’ and the deep-seated insecurities we all face within the queer community. Itʼs a play that invites audiences to laugh, wince, and recognise their own human messiness on stage,” Robinson-Taylor said.
Taylor Made Productions has built a reputation for emotionally driven queer storytelling in Melbourne theatre, previously staging successful productions of Holding the Man and Torch Song.
Four Play runs from 24 to 27 June 2026 at Chapel Off Chapel in Prahran. Tickets are on sale here.
