Melbourne’s much-loved immersive art attraction ArtVo is officially reopening at The District Docklands following a major refresh, with a brand-new series of hand-painted illusion installations designed to transport visitors around the world and beyond.
Known for its larger-than-life trick art experiences and interactive photo opportunities, ArtVo has become one of Melbourne’s most popular family attractions, welcoming more than 100,000 visitors annually and earning a Tripadvisor Travellers’ Choice award. Ranked among Melbourne’s top attractions on Tripadvisor with more than 1,200 positive reviews, the Docklands venue has built a loyal following among locals and tourists alike.

The refreshed experience introduces an Around the World in 80 Days-inspired theme, featuring more than 40 new artworks painted entirely by hand by a team of South Korean artists renowned for their expertise in illusion-based “trick art”.
Visitors can now pose inside whimsical scenes inspired by Hobbiton, Diagon Alley and Vincent van Gogh’s The Starry Night, alongside a mix of fantasy landscapes and surreal visual puzzles.

In an era increasingly dominated by AI-generated visuals and digital effects, ArtVo’s old-school approach places the focus firmly on handcrafted artistry and slow creative practice. Two of the heritage artists, aged 60 and 75, spent three months meticulously painting the new works, reinforcing the gallery’s long-standing emphasis on process, imagination and play.
Almost 30 per cent of the original artworks remain in place, meaning returning visitors will still recognise some familiar favourites while exploring the expanded experience.

The venue has also been designed to cater to visitors of all ages and abilities, with wheelchair-friendly pathways and accessible navigation throughout the gallery.
“Art is a cornerstone of imagination and play, and at The District we are proud supporters and implementors of one-of-a-kind experiences,’ said Jonathan Codman, Director of Precincts for The District Docklands.
“We’re thrilled to be welcoming visitors back to ArtVo and be part of art,” he said.
ArtVo Melbourne officially reopens on Monday 1 June and will operate daily from 10am to 5pm. Tickets are available here.
