Australian NBA talents Josh Giddey and Dyson Daniels are bringing stateside basketball flair home, investing in CourtSide – a revolutionary 10,000 square metre complex being touted as Australia’s answer to a “Disneyland for basketballers”.
The Port Melbourne facility, set to open soon, could become a game-changer for Melbourne’s basketball landscape, potentially hosting NBA preseason games and even matches at the MCG.
The ambitious project features multiple elite-standard courts including a showcourt with 300-seat grandstand, two full-sized courts, two half courts and six shooting bays.
Beyond the hardwood, CourtSide will house 2700 square metres of retail space stocked with major brands including Nike, Adidas and Jordan, plus the exclusive retail debut of Daniels’ own clothing line Vouseti.
The Chicago Bulls’ Giddey and Atlanta Hawks’ Daniels see the complex as more than just a training hub – it’s designed to service all levels from beginners to professionals, with elite recovery facilities including a 250 square metre gym, sauna, and hot/cold therapy baths.
The venue is already being positioned as a potential WNBL team base and will serve as training headquarters when the New Orleans Pelicans play historic matches in Melbourne later this year.
With its combination of elite training infrastructure, retail offerings, and community-focused programming, CourtSide represents a major vote of confidence in Australian basketball’s future from two of its brightest NBA exports.
The investors hope this Melbourne flagship will be the first of several nationwide locations, potentially raising Australia’s profile as a destination for international basketball events.
