You’d have to be living under a rock in Melbourne to have missed the lead up to the 2023 Grand Final. The two teams who are going to go head to head in the big match are Collingwood and Brisbane.
As always, in the lead up to the Grand Final there are a range of football related activities on in and around Melbourne.
AFL Footy Festival
The AFL’s free Footy Festival is back again at Yarra Park, adjacent to the MCG, running from September 27th to September 30th.
This exciting event, ideal for a school holiday outing has a wide array of entertainment suitable for all age groups. Look forward to player appearances, fabulous giveaways, live music, and a selection of Melbourne’s finest food trucks and bars.
The festival is on from 9:30 to 5:00pm on Wednesday to Friday, and will run from 8:00am to 7:00pm on Saturday.
2023 Grand Final parade
The Grand Final parade is back on land this year after it was held on the water last year for COVID-19 restriction purposes. You can see it from 10:30am to 12:30pm on Friday 29 September

Starting at Melbourne Park Live Site, watch the Toyota HiLux motorcade make its way through Birrarung Marr and into Footy Festival at Yarra Park, concluding at Gate 3 of the MCG.
Where can you watch the Grand Final?
The Grand Final will kick off at the MCG on Saturday, September 30 at 2:30pm. You can watch it at home on Channel 7, with is free-to-air. There will also be reruns on the streaming service Kayo.
If you haven’t managed to snare a ticket to the Grand Final and you don’t want to watch at home alone, you can head out to one of the live sites around Melbourne expected to draw in thousands of footy fans:
- The AFL will have a unique 360-degree stage in a field right outside Melbourne Park that’s got room for up to 20,000 people.
- The match will also be shown on big screens at Yarra Park and Federation Square.
- Bunjil Place in Narre Warren will show the match on its outdoor screen.
- Collingwood is staging a watch party at its home base at Olympic Park.
Plenty of pubs and clubs around Melbourne will also be screening the game.
